What helps you stay open?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for July 11, 2008:

I wouldn't recommend it for most people since they'd likely get really angry really quick. I,  however, find it amusing at times, and even downright hilarious - One must have a hearty sense of humor to be able to digest right wing radio.

I listen to Rush Limbaugh's morning show on my commute to work. I am not a GOP, right wing conservative for sure - Nor am I a left wing liberal (though he would likely label me so.) I use it as an exercise- to see if I can listen to what is being said, not who is saying it. It allows me to be able to really sift out what is opinion vs. based on fact and sound reason; what is simply politics at its best and worst; what is dual-party-mentalism vs. truly integral desire for freedom and democracy; what is egoic asertion vs. genuine patriotism; what is fair and balanced vs skewed and narrow; what is intentional inflammation vs intelligent examination of issues.

See if you can do it (if you dare):

When is competition valuable?

Posted on Jul 3rd, 2008 by dalaigoat : Dalai_Goat dalaigoat
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for July 03, 2008:

when something is competitively priced that means its cheaper than the rest - if you are payed a competitive wage thats code for the minimum wage a person or group of people will accept for that job - a competitive advantage means to have a distinct superiority over your opponent. To compete is to strive to out do another for acknowledgment, a prize, supremacy or profit; it implies a sense of rivalry.

In that sense I say I am not competitive. I prefer to compete by leading and to lead by example - out of a sense of quality and enjoyment for what you are doing - not to "out do" anybody.

What is the difference between knowledge and wisdom?

Posted on Jul 2nd, 2008 by dalaigoat : Dalai_Goat dalaigoat
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for July 02, 2008:

knowlege is fast - wisdom is slow. knowledge is in the mind - wisdom is in your teeth... at least some of them LOL. knowledge is confusing - wisdom is liberating. knowledge depends on commonly held beliefs - wisdom sees through beLIEf.

What is the role of art in the world?

Posted on Jul 1st, 2008 by dalaigoat : Dalai_Goat dalaigoat
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for July 01, 2008:

I don't remember who said this but.... "the role of the artist is:

to be on a permanenet state of alert and to create endless alternatives, alternative ways of thinking." basically to be lucid and inventive -

What is your greatest distraction?

Posted on Jun 26th, 2008 by dalaigoat : Dalai_Goat dalaigoat
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for June 26, 2008:

If I knew what really mattered  - I guess I could identify what distracts me from it. So that to me is the real question... What really matters?

It seems to easy to be utilitarian about it (food, clothing, shelter, etc...) It is obviously not material (cars, money, designer stuff) I'm also not completely satisfied with a purely metaphysical solution (spirituality, love, etc...) So all the aforementioned have their place in what "matters" I guess... is it a completely individual thing based on our proclivities, prejudice and desires how ever arbitrary?

What's the connection between midsummer and mystery?

Posted on Jun 24th, 2008 by dalaigoat : Dalai_Goat dalaigoat
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for June 21, 2008:

If you have ever had the pleasure of spending the solstice in a country or province etc... that exists in a far northern latitude, then you have seen how the sun barely even dips below the horizon (if at all depending on how far north you are) - the European tradition is to stay up all night in the forest, overeating and drinking heavily around a massive bonfire. There are traditional dances, songs, stories and rituals of the Pagan persuasion. then you sleep all day the next day -

How do you respond to being alone?

Posted on Jun 16th, 2008 by dalaigoat : Dalai_Goat dalaigoat
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for June 14, 2008:

Solitude and I were together for many many years, on and off of course... We really had some great times together. We spent a lot of time, reading, writing, painting - creating. It's been a long time since we have been able to get together - but I know we will always be friends, and next time we kick it, we'll pick up right where we left off. Cause me & Solitude, we're like "this" (I'm making the "tight-crossed-fingers-international-symbol-for-close" sign between typing words - and it is exhausting.)
